Sustainability at GSC
Being kind to our environment. Because the world’s future is our children’s future.
We take conscious actions to minimise our carbon footprint in the present, and focus on long-term, measurable change guided by environmental legislation and industry best practices.
Our Policy
GSC is committed to leading the industry with minimal environmental impact across every aspect of our business and its operations. We take seriously our corporate responsibility to help shape a better world for future generations. That commitment drives us to focus on meaningful actions that maximise operational efficiency at every level. To achieve this we continually review our processes, reduce waste, and choose responsibly sourced materials. Additionally, wherever possible, we hand-make products in the UK, avoid plastic in hangers and packaging, and use eco-friendly lighting and heating in our offices.
Products
As a children’s clothing designer and manufacturer, we commit to developing future-fit products that are both desirable for consumers and environmentally responsible. We apply circular economy principles, creating long-lasting garments and encouraging our customers to pass on our products for second-life use, aiming to keep materials in use for as long as possible and create further value.
Currently, 99% of our products are manufactured from widely recyclable textiles. In 2023 we launched our first two fully eco-friendly costumes made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester fibres, certified to Global Recycled Standard. This marked an important first step. In 2024 we rolled this out over 25% of our entire range, with a target to reach 50% by the end of 2026 and 90% by 2028. We recognise that sustainable materials are currently more expensive than original materials. However, instead of passing these costs on to customers, we have chosen to partly absorb these costs as a profit sacrifice. This approach helps us maintain affordability, stay price-competitive, and ensure that sustainable choices are accessible to a broader customer base.
Packaging
In addition to promoting recycling internally and throughout our supplier network, we’ve set a major sustainability focused goal: eliminate all plastic packaging from our supply chain – including recycled plastics – by the end of 2026. To reach this target, we source packaging materials exclusively from suppliers certified by the Global Recycled Standard and the Forest Stewardship Council. Guaranteeing, all materials are responsibly sourced and fully recyclable. This approach helps us close the loop on packaging waste, while driving real progress toward a more sustainable future.
Energy and Emissions
Across all areas of our business, we aim to not only meet but exceed all relevant environmental legislation. Such as by carefully selecting our fleet vehicles, to reduce toxic and greenhouse gas emissions, and using an internal offsetting program to mitigate any environmental impact that remains.
We are actively recording and measuring our carbon emissions activities to ensure a reduction of our carbon footprint across operations. So far, between 2023 and 2024, we reduced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by over 40%, and have set ourselves a clear goal to lower our carbon intensity to below the industry average of 0.13 kg CO2e/£ by 2028.
Greener Workplaces
Our Head Office incorporates several environmentally conscious features, including a wood-chip biomass heating system, solar panel electricity generation, Cycle to Work funded bike shelter, EV charging points and internal recycling initiatives. The site is currently part of a carbon reporting scheme and is working toward carbon neutrality.
